Multimedia messaging app Snapchat is teaming up with e-commerce giant Amazon Inc. to create a new feature called “Camera Search,” TechCrunch reported on Monday, citing the app’s hidden code. According to the report, Snapchat is developing a new visual search component that will offer users Amazon listings.
The code name for the new feature is “Eagle” and it will allow the app’s users “to identify an object, song, barcode, and more” while using the search app. When data is processed, it will be sent to Snapchat partners, such as Amazon and Shazam. Once the scanning is complete, the app will provide users with an option to “see all results at Amazon.”
The new development may enhance Snapchat ‘s popularity among users, especially since the introduction of Facebook’s Instagram Story feature shook its position in the social media market.
