CEO of Tesla Inc. Elon Musk revealed on Twitter the configuration of the Model 3 dual motor vehicle. In a sequence of Twitter messages, he said the performance version of the car will be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph and a 310-mile range. The price tag excluding autopilot is set at $78000 and Musk said the car “will beat anything in its class on the track.” The all-wheel-drive option will cost an additional $5000 and feature the same range, reaching 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph. Musk added the AWD version will be available in three to four months, depending on the demand, saying that the company can currently satisfy a demand of around 1000 a week.
“Tesla dual motor means there is a motor in front and a motor in rear. One is optimized for power and one for range. Car drives fine even if a motor breaks down. Helps ensure you make it to your destination and don’t get stuck on side of road in potentially unsafe conditions,” Musk wrote.
