Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk said that “excessive automation” involved in the production of the Model 3 was a mistake. Commenting on his CBS News interview in a Twitter message, Musk took responsibility for the decision. “Yes, excessive automation at Tesla was a mistake. To be precise, my mistake. Humans are underrated,” he stated.
Speaking about the recent issues Tesla has faced, including fatal crashes and production delays, Musk said he is “definitely under stress.” He pointed out the introduction of new technology, including the “crazy, complex network of conveyor belts” as one of the factors which affected the automaker’s ability to meet its goals. “We got complacent about some of the things that we felt were our core technology. We put too much new technology into the Model 3 all at once,” he said.
