Japan Display shares dive on iPhone OLED screen adoption reports

Japan Display Inc. shares plummeted on Tuesday, following reports that Apple Inc. is set to adopt organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens for new iPhone models in 2019. The Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi joint venture shares tumbled over 20%.

South Korea’s Electronic Times reported earlier that the Cupertino-based tech giant will use OLED screens for all models which are to be released next year, citing sources with knowledge on the matter.

Japan Display Inc. is one of the major suppliers for iPhone liquid crystal display (LCD) screens and it is reportedly planning to produce OLED panels in 2019.
