Facebook-owned photo-sharing social network Instagram announced on Wednesday that it surpassed 1 billion users, and officially announced its own video service IGTV. Since last September, Instagram added around 200 million users and doubled the count since June 2016. When it was purchased by Facebook in 2012, it had less than 50 million users.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Instagram said that videos on IGTV will be limited to one hour or ten minutes, depending on the range the user’s follower count. Those with more than 10,000 followers will be able to post videos of up to an hour, while those with fewer followers will be limited to ten minutes. IGTV will be embedded in the regular application and get its own standalone app in the following days.
