Google Llc announced on Wednesday that it is launching two new products, Edge TPU and Cloud IoT Edge. Edge TPU is an ASIC chip supporting TensorFlow Lite ML models at the edge while Cloud IoT Edge is meant to work with end devices. Aiming at helping its customers utilize smart connected devices better, the tech giant developed the products to allow its users to run their previously-built machine learning models in the cloud with the help of Edge TPU and Cloud IoT Edge. Cloud IoT Edge devices with built-in Edge TPU hardware will host the process.

“When designing Edge TPU, we were hyper-focused on optimizing for ‘performance per watt’ and ‘performance per dollar’ within a small footprint,” Injong Rhee, vice-president at Google Cloud stated. “Edge TPUs are designed to complement our Cloud TPU offering, so you can accelerate [machine learning] training in the cloud,” he added.

Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc. reported a 26% growth in revenue for the second quarter of 2018 on Monday. The company’s shares gained 0.46% at 6:27 pm CET.
