Facebook registers Chinese subsidiary – report

Facebook Inc. registered a subsidiary in the Chinese city of Hangzhou after being blocked in China since 2009, the New York Times reported. According to a government filing, the social media giant got approval last week and invested $30 million in the subsidiary.

However, the report stated that on Tuesday “the corporate registration was taken down from the Chinese government website, and some references to the new subsidiary appeared to be censored on social media in the country.” Facebook said its Chinese office would be an “innovation hub to support Chinese developers, innovators and start-ups” and that it would focus on training and workshops.
