Facebook bug made millions of private posts public

A Facebook software bug made private posts of up to 14 million users public for four days in May, the company revealed on Thursday. The bug occurred while the social media giant was testing a new feature from May 18 to May 22 which led to 14 million people having their default sharing setting for all new posts set to public.

“We have fixed this issue and starting today we are letting everyone affected know and asking them to review any posts they made during that time,” Facebook’s Chief Privacy Officer Erin Egan said in a statement. “To be clear, this bug did not impact anything people had posted before – and they could still choose their audience just as they always have,” she added.
