Bill Gates: Anonymity in cryptocurrencies use is not good

Anonymity provided for buyers, as a main feature of cryptocurrencies, is a harmful thing, co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gates stated during a recent “Ask me Anything” session on Reddit. “The main feature of crypto currencies is their anonymity.  I don’t think this is a good thing.  The Governments ability  to find money laundering and tax evasion and terrorist funding is a good thing. Right now crypto currencies are used for buying fentanyl and other drugs so it is a rare technology that has caused deaths in a fairly direct way.  I think the speculative wave around ICOs and crypto currencies is super risky for those who go long,” Gates wrote in one his Reddit posts.

When one of the users on the discussion board stated that regular cash can be used for illegal purposes, billionaire inventor responded: “Yes – anonymous cash is used for these kinds of things, but you have to be physically present to transfer it, which makes things like kidnapping payments more difficult.” According to certain studies, more than 95% of drugs are bought with fiat.
