Online retail giant eBay Inc. will start accepting Apple Pay as a payment method with a limited number of its customers this fall, the company announced in a release on Tuesday. After its split from PayPal three years ago, the company plans to start managing payments on its own through an integrated payment system. Apple’s mobile payment and digital wallet service will be one the first payment methods available to users, as it’s “easy, secure and private way to pay,” as the announcement describes it.
“Offering Apple Pay as a form of payment on eBay is the first step in providing more choice and flexibility in payment options to our tens of millions of buyers,” said Steve Fisher, eBay’s Senior Vice President of Payments.
Apple Pay’s availability on the platform will be gradually expanded throughout 2019 until 2021, when it’s expected to be available to virtually all eBay customers.
